Minto is an Athabascan Indian village of Interior Alaska. In 1971 the population moved from the original village site on the banks of the Tanana River inland to above the flood plain at the base of the hills overlooking the Minto Flats.
Peter John is recognized as the traditional chief of Minto. His voice carries authority and wisdom from a life devoted to subsistence living. He speaks for a care of the land that crosses generations and races. When Peter John was born, people in the Interior did not have permanent villages, Fairbanks didn’t exist.
