Edgar Kallands lives in Kaltag, an Athabascan village on the Yukon River end of a traditional trade route to Unalakleet on the Norton Sound coast.  There are about 240 people in Kaltag, a school, a church, four stores, community center, and town council building. 

Although Edgar is best known for his part in the famous Serum Run to Nome popularized by the Iditarod Sled Dog Race, it cannot match his years as an expert riverboat engineer and captain.
