About Tanana

The village of Tanana is located at the confluence of the Tanana and Yukon Rivers. It is about a 45-minute small plane ride west of Fairbanks, Alaska. The road to Tanana includes an ice road mid-winter and possible boat crossings in the summer. Athabaskan culture is an important aspect of village life and the school participates in village events whenever possible. The population hovers around 250 people with a school population between 35-45 students.

Tanana City School District is pleased to announce our participation in the National School Lunch Program. Meals will be available free of charge to all children at Maudrey J Sommer School. Meals meet nutritional standards set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Our school will participate in the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program for SY23-24.
